Tornado Baseball Drops Close Game At Humboldt

The Storm Lake baseball team lost their final game of the regular season Monday night at Humboldt 3-2. After falling behind 1-0 after the fist inning Storm Lake’s Charlie Dvergsten delivered some fireworks with a 2-run homer in the top of the 3rd inning to put the Tornadoes in front 2-1. The Wildcats Evan Hatcher hit a solo homer in the 4th off losing pitcher Carson Lullmann to tie the game and Humboldt plated a run in the 5th thanks to a pair of walks, a single, and a hit batter to go up 3-2. The Wildcats third pitcher of the night, Ty Gargano, pitched the 6th and 7th innings and retired all six batters that he faced to pick up the save.

Storm Lake managed only two hits on the night. Besides Dvergsten’s bomb, Allan White led off the 5th with a single. Lullmann pitched four innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits. Edgar Barreiro pitched two innings and gave up no runs on one hit.

Humboldt improves to 24-3 and will play Spencer Wednesday. Storm Lake, now 19-9, will host Denison-Schleswig in the first round of the playoffs Friday night at 7pm.
