Brock Edwards threw a 3-hit shutout and Storm Lake plated three runs in the top of the 7th inning to beat Spencer 3-0 and claim a share of the Lakes Conference championship.
With two outs in the top of the 7th inning and the bases loaded Trey Boettcher drilled a liner to right field scoring Rylan Richardson and Cael Phelps who both earlier singled to make it 2-0. Edwards followed with a base hit scoring Bobby Boeckman to make it 3-0.
In the bottom of the 7th the Tigers would load the bases but Edwards fanned Larson Vulk for the games final out. Edwards struck out eleven batters walked four and hit two in picking up his fourth win of the year.
Storm Lake had eight hits on the night with Boettcher and Azael Garcia each getting two. The win puts Storm Lake 11-8 overall and they finish the Lakes 6-2. Click below to hear from coach Michael Knapp and some of the Tornado players.
The Tornado softball team lost to Spencer 1-0. Avery DeHaan pitched a great game allowing only four hits, zero earned runs, while striking out six. Tornadoes managed just two hits in the game as they fall to 17-6 overall. They share the conference title with the Tigers as both teams went 7-1 in the league.
Storm Lake baseball team hosts Le Mars Friday night and both teams play at MOC Floyd Valley Tuesday.
