Storm Lake Soccer teams sweep past Sheldon

–The Storm Lake Tornado Soccer teams swept past the Sheldon Orabs with the Tornado girls winning 6-1 and the Tornado boys winning 8-0

–The girl’s game saw the Storm Lake Tornadoes defeat the Sheldon Orabs 6-1. The first ten minutes of the game would see the teams go head-to-head without breaking the ice. The first tally would see Senior Nelly Cortez find the back of the net with 28 minutes to go. Just over five minutes later the Orabs had an answer after a Tornado handball when Bielka Escobar added the penalty kick score to tie the game at 1-1. Just 17 seconds later the Orab equalizer would be answered with Cortez’s second goal of the game to give the Tornadoes the 2-1 lead. The Tornadoes would add one more tally with Jezebel Ocegueda’s goal to give the Tornadoes the 3-1 lead at the break.

The second half saw the Tornadoes strike in the first ten minutes when Fernanda Comparan scored to give the Tornadoes the 4-1 lead. The Tornadoes would added two more goals in the final six minutes, goals from Marlene Coronel and Cortez, en route to the 6-1 win. The Tornadoes improved to 1-1, and the Orabs fell to 1-3. Tornado goals scorers: Nelly Cortez 3 goals, Fernanda Comparan 1 goal, Marlene Coronel 1 goal, and Jezebel Ocegueda with 1 goal. The six goals marked the first time a Tornado Girls Soccer team scored six goals since April 28, 2015. UP NEXT: The Tornadoes play host to Spirit Lake on Thursday

–The boy’s game also saw a Tornado victory 8-0. The Tornadoes jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the halftime break en route to an 8-0 win. The win improves the Tornadoes to 2-1, while the loss drops the Orabs to 1-3. The Tornadoes had goals from: Raymond Hernandez (3), Jose Oropeza (2 + 2 assists), David Montejano (1), Gerardo Perez (1), and Cairo Hernandez (1). UP NEXT: The Tornadoes play on the road at Sioux City East on Thursday night

Both JV teams also picked up victories with the girls and boys both winning 3-0
