Three Homers Lift Storm Lake Softball to Win in Pocahontas

Storm Lake’s undefeated season remains intact, as the Tornadoes defeated Pocahontas Area 11-8 tonight (Tues) in Pocahontas.

Maddy Raveling started the scoring with a one-out solo homerun in the 3rd. An RBI single by Kennadie Miller later that inning made it 2-0. Poky answered in the bottom of the 3rd, getting three runs with two outs. After a two-out single by Addie Lawson, Katie Rierson doubled her home, and two batters later a two-RBI single by Jacalyn Sobotka put the Indians on top 3-2.

The Tornadoes promptly tied the game as Abby Bodholdt led off the 4th with a homer. MacKenzie Harder scored from 3rd on a double steal later in the 4th to give Storm Lake a 4-3 lead.

Storm Lake scored three in the 5th, which included an RBI double by Bodholdt. Poky also scored three in the 5th, which featured a two-RBI double by Paige Melohn to cut the Storm Lake lead to 7-6.

The Tornadoes put the game out of reach with a four-run 6th, which included Raveling’s second homer of the game, a three-run shot to make it 11-6. Poky scored two in the 7th on a two-RBI double by Lauren Hoover.

In addition to her four-RBI night at the plate, Raveling picked up the win in the circle with five innings pitched and seven strikeouts. Avery DeHaan pitched the last two innings and struck out five. Storm Lake had 12 hits and Poky had ten.

Storm Lake is now 9-0, as they host Spirit Lake tomorrow (Wed). Pocahontas Area drops to 5-5, and they play tomorrow at Storm Lake St. Mary’s.
