The Storm Lake Tornado soccer teams fell to the Spencer Tigers; with the girls falling 12-0 to 2A #5 Spencer, and the 3A #13 boys fell 1-0 to 3A #8 Spencer
The girls game saw Storm Lake fall 12-0 in a shortened game that would only see 40 minutes played. Iratzel Ocegueda mad 15 saves in the effort, and both Nelly Cortes and Andrea Gomez get shot off on the offensive side. With the loss the Tornadoes fell to 1-8, and 2A #5 Spencer improved to 8-2. Up next for the Tornado girls they hit the road Friday night to take on Denison-Schleswig.
The boys game saw two top 15 teams in Class 3A go toe-to-toe. The first half began the grudge match. The Tigers would have better looks, with on shot hitting the crossbar, on shot hitting the post and Alexis Sanabia-Manriquez making several great saves. The Tornado offense would have one golden opprotunity in the opening half on a one-on-one shot that was saved by Eli Hookfin. The game would go into the half with a score of 0-0.
The second half saw a Tigers surge and goal with just over three minutes gone in the second half. The Tigers would see Romeo Alvarez score his second goal of the season with an assist from Owen Olsen to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would see Olsen collect a red card with 28:54 to go after arguing a non-handball call with the official. The game would go scoreless as the Tornadoes would be on the 11 on 10 advantage after the card. Later in the game the Tigers would get carded again, this time a yellow at 14:25 going against Easton Ohnesorge. The Tigers would ultimately lock down and hang on to win the match 1-0.
The loss drops the Tornadoes to 3-4, now having lost 4of the their last 5 games via shutout (all shutout losses vs ranked teams), and the Tigers improve to 6-1. The teams will meet on May 11th at Tornado Field a game that will be broadcast on KAYL
