Pocahontas Area at Alta Aurelia Basketball Recap

The Pocahontas Area girls ended on a 7-0 run to defeat Alta Aurelia 58-51 to begin tonight’s (Fri) Twin Lakes Conference doubleheader in Alta.

Alta Aurelia didn’t trail in the 1st half, led by as many as nine, and were up 32-27 at halftime. The Indians took their first lead at 36-35. Alta Aurelia took the lead back at 39-37, but Poky went up for good at 40-39 as part of a 10-0 run, and led by as many as eight during the 4th. A 6-0 run by the Warriors that featured a basket Lucy Gunkelman and four free throws by Nora Peterson tied the score at 51-51. Alayna Kakacek hit a three with just over a minute remaining, and that was soon followed by another from Madison Vial to put the game away. Vial also hit a free throw in the final seconds.

Kakacek had 14 for Poky, followed by Vonnahme with 13, and Vial had 11. Vonnahme and Vial talked after the game…

The Poky girls are now 3-2, and 2-0 in the TLC. Alta Aurelia goes to 4-2, 1-1.

The Alta Aurelia boys won their 4th straight game 72-59 over Pocahontas Area.

Alta Aurelia led 19-15 after the 1st quarter. Poky’s points came on five threes, and they had their only two leads of the game within the first eight minutes. The Warriors ended the 1st half on a 17-1 run to go up 44-27. Alta Aurelia’s lead got as large as 21 early in the 4th.

Three Warriors scored in double figures including Ayden Dullea and Jack Bloom with 19 each, and Cameron Stites had 18. The Indians hit ten threes on the night. Luke Gerdes hit four threes and had 14 points, and Gabe Ehn had three threes and 12 points.

The Alta Aurelia boys now sit at 4-1, 2-0 TLC, while Poky is 0-4.

The Alta Aurelia teams play Monday at KP-RV.

The Poky teams play Tuesday at East Sac County, and they’ll be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM.
