Oropeza scores game winner in first game back for the Tornadoes, Girls fall on the road

The 3A #13 Storm Lake Tornadoes collected a double-overtime thriller winning 2-1 over Denison-Schleswig

The first half saw the both sides have golden chances but neither would connect. The Monarchs had a 2 on 1 chance that Alexis Sanabia had the answer, the Tornadoes had two great cross chances that could not score.

The second half opened much of the same way the first half did. The teams would play an even match for the first 25 minutes of the half. The Tornadoes would get the leading and first goal of the game when Mauricio Zavala-Leon connected from the arc at 15:08. The Monarchs would get one last gasp when they saw a PK chance with 1:53 to go in the game. The Monarchs would get the equalizer when Richard Gonzalez connected on the PK shot to tie the game at 1 and the teams would go to overtime.

Neither side would score in overtime #1 as both sides would see great chances. The Tornadoes would connect on a PK with 8:04 to go in the second overtime, when Jose Oropeza collected his first of the season.
