Newell Fonda Basketball Teams Cruise in Sac City

The 2nd ranked in 1A Newell Fonda girls won their 5th straight game to start the season, as they rolled 92-21 over East Sac County on Friday.

The Mustangs raced to a 12-0 lead, and later went on a 14-0 run in the 1st half as they led 46-17 at halftime. The 35-point continuous clock went into effect early in the 3rd. Newell Fonda didn’t allow points in the 2nd half until there was 3:30 left to play. The Mustangs defense only allowed five field goals the whole game.

Newell Fonda had 11 players put points on the board, with four in double-figures. Kierra Jungers had 17, McKenna Sievers 14, and Mary Walker and Kinzee Hinders had 13. Postgame comments from Mary and Mia Walker can be heard below.

Kendall Quirk had 7 points for East Sac, as the Raiders fall to 0-3.

The Newell Fonda boys turned it up a notch in 2nd half in their 94-53 victory.

East Sac led early, but the Mustangs took the lead for good at 13-10 as they went on an 18-0 run. The Raiders answered that with a 10-0 run and kept pace the remainder of the half, and the Mustangs were up 41-36 at the break.

Newell Fonda went on a 14-0 run as part of a 30-8 advantage in the 3rd quarter, and the running clock kicked in with four minutes left.

Carters Sievers and Mason Dicks each had a monster game, as Sievers had 34 points and Dicks scored 27. The Raiders had four in double-digits including Sam Julin with 13, Caleb Eichhorn 12, Ryan Clair 11, and Luke Wright had 10. Comments from Mustangs coach Chad Buchholz can be heard below.

Newell Fonda is now 2-0. The Mustang teams will play this coming Tuesday, December 13th at Estherville Lincoln Central.

East Sac goes to 0-2. The Raiders squads play tomorrow (Sat) at OA-BCIG starting at 3pm, and they’ll be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.
