Matt Hanson Wins Des Moines Ironman

Former Storm Laker Matt Hanson won the Ironman Des MoinesNorth American Championship on Sunday with temperatures approaching 90 degrees.

The 37-year-old Hanson bent over and then crumpled to the carpet after holding up the winner’s banner at Court Avenue, with the win he claimed the top prize of$15,000.

Hanson covered the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run in 7 hours, 56 minutes, 48 seconds, it’s his sixth career ironman victory.

Hanson, who was a faculty member at his alma mater, Buena Vista University, before moving to Castle Rock, Colorado, less than two years ago.
