The Pocahontas Area softball team plated three runs in the top of the 7th inning and beat Storm Lake 5-2 Tuesday night at Storm Lake.
Senior pitcher Lauren Hoover gave up two runs on six hits while striking out 14 and walking only one batter.
The Indians had eight hits off Tornado pitcher Avery DeHaan including Hoover’s solo homer in the 2nd inning. In their 7th inning rally pinch hitter Ali Hoover delivered an RBI single putting Poky in front 3-2. A fielders choice and a sacrifice fly plated two more runs to give the Indians a three run cushion which was more than enough for Hoover to notch her 5th win of the year.
Storm Lake had six hits with Richardson getting two and Abby Bodholdt had two hits. DeHaan suffered the loss. She struck out nine and walked one.
Pocahontas Area is now 7-5 and will play again Friday in a triangular at Lawton-Bronson. The Tornadoes are now 7-4 and will play again Thursday at home against Cherokee.
