Visitation for Ken Thomas, age 81 of Sac City, IA, will be from 4:00-7:00PM on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. A Private Family Graveside Service is planned for a later date. Ken passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home of Sac City is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Eugene Thomas of Sac City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 81 years old.
Ken was born and raised in Sac City, Iowa, the only child of John and Lois Thomas. He was a hardworking, self-made man who took great pride in what he built with his own hands. He owned and operated Ken’s Body Shop and Sandblasting and later took over his father’s septic tank cleaning business. His work was more than just a means to make a living, it was something he was proud of. He was known for his determination, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others.
Outside of work, Ken loved being outdoors and staying busy. He especially enjoyed snowmobiling and, in his earlier years, belonged to a 4-Wheel Drive Club where he enjoyed mud drags, trails, and river riding. He could often be found tinkering on one project or another. He enjoyed buying, selling, and trading old cars, combining his creativity with his love of old vehicles. At the time of his passing, Ken was working on restoring a Model A, a project that brought him great enjoyment.
But perhaps nothing compared to Ken’s love for his animals. They were truly the love of his life, and his compassion and connection with them were a special part of who he was.
Ken was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Vera; his daughter, Tammy Weathers (Nate) of Primghar, Iowa; and his stepchildren, Lori Lasher of Yetter, Iowa, Wes Lasher (Deb) of Algona, Iowa, Aaron Lasher of Lanesboro, Iowa, Owen Lasher (Tasha) of Boone, Iowa, and Rachel Seil (Rusty) of Lake City, Iowa. He leaves behind eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who will carry his memory and the lessons he taught them for generations to come.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lois Thomas: and his grandson, Eric Findley.
Those who knew Ken will remember him for his strong work ethic, his pride in his work, his love of animals, his enjoyment of the outdoors, and his determination to keep busy and keep moving forward. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, projects, and a family who loved him dearly. Though he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the people he loved and the many things he built and left behind.
Rest peacefully, Dad. You worked hard, loved deeply, and left your mark on all of us. We love you and will miss you always.
