According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the number of roads marked “travel not advised” has been growing as winds blow snow off highways, uncovering the ice beneath, while creating drifts in other areas.
Travel isn’t advised on highways around Storm Lake including Highway 71, 7, 3, and 110 due to blowing and drifting snow.
Towing is not recommended in many counties especially in central and southern Iowa, and that includes Calhoun and Carroll counties.
From Wednesday through 5pm yesterday (Thur), The Iowa State Patrol covered 207 crashes statewide. During that span, there were 195 property damage incidents, and 12 personal injuries. No fatalities were reported. The State Patrol assisted 402 motorists.
A Blizzard Warning is now in effect for Buena Vista and surrounding counties until 6am tomorrow (Sat).
The Storm Lake area is under a Wind Chill Warning until noon tomorrow (Sat).
