Storm Lake Police Department Investigates Thursday Vehicle Crimes

The Storm Lake Police Department is urging residents to take extra precautions after a string of vehicle crimes early yesterday (Thursday, Aug. 20) morning.

Between 2 and 8 a.m., officers responded to two stolen vehicles and at least one vehicle burglary in areas near the Sail Inn Motel on Kenzy Street, along Geneseo Street north of West Second Street and between Otsego Street and College Avenue near Buena Vista University.

Both stolen vehicles were recovered, but police say the keys to one of them are still missing. Investigators are asking residents in those neighborhoods to check home security or doorbell cameras for any suspicious activity from overnight. Anyone who finds a set of keys or has video that may help the investigation is asked to contact the police department at 712‑749‑2525.

Police also remind residents to keep vehicles locked and never leave keys inside — even when parked at home — and to report any unreported break‑ins so officers can document and follow up on all incidents.
