The Storm Lake Municipal Band will return to the historic Sunset Park Bandshell this summer for its 92nd season, featuring seven free Sunday concerts from late May through early July.
The season opens Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. Most concerts begin at 2 p.m., except for the June 14 performance, which starts at 3 p.m. to allow families to attend Kids’ Fest in Chautauqua Park earlier in the afternoon. A special July 3 evening concert is also planned as part of the Star Spangled Spectacular activities.
Organizers say the long running tradition remains strong, with one of the largest bands in recent memory performing last year. Musicians of all ages and from several area communities take part, and newcomers are welcome. The band performs a wide range of music, including marches, classical selections, pop tunes and movie themes.
Veteran music educator Tom Musel returns as director, with Matt Pearson serving as concert announcer. Updates, announcements and concert previews are available on the Storm Lake Municipal Band Facebook page.
