A Storm Lake man will spend 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a child and committing a second sexual offense involving another child.
Thirty-four-year-old Sergio Montejano Rendon was sentenced earlier this month in Buena Vista County District Court in Storm Lake.
Montejano Rendon pleaded guilty Sept. 8 to two counts of lascivious acts with a child. One of those counts was amended from second-degree sexual abuse as part of a plea agreement.
Three other charges — assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, indecent contact with a child and lascivious conduct with a minor — were dismissed under the agreement.
According to court allegations, Montejano Rendon had sexual contact with a girl under age 14 at a Storm Lake residence in December 2025. A second girl under age 14 was also present, and prosecutors alleged Montejano Rendon grabbed her arm and tried to pull her onto a bed.
Storm Lake police began investigating after receiving a report of the allegations March 11. Montejano Rendon was arrested March 12 and initially faced four charges, including second-degree sexual abuse.
District Judge Charles Borth sentenced Montejano Rendon to 20 years in prison.
After he completes that sentence, he will be placed under a special lifetime sentence, meaning he will remain under supervision similar to parole for the rest of his life. A violation could result in his return to prison.
Montejano Rendon also will be required to register as a sex offender in Iowa.
