Storm Lake Police arrested a Storm Lake man early Sunday morning after responding to a report of suspicious activity on the city’s north side.
According to the Storm Lake Police Department, officers were called around 4:15 a.m. on June 21 to the 600 block of Lincoln Road. When they arrived, they spoke with a victim who reported that a man had approached them and offered to sell narcotics. The victim told police the man then threatened to shoot them if they contacted law enforcement.
Police identified the suspect as 26‑year‑old Julio Hernandez Villegas. Officers located him in the area a short time later, where police say he physically resisted as they attempted to take him into custody. According to the department, an officer sustained minor bodily injuries before Hernandez Villegas was subdued and arrested.
During a search incident to arrest, police allege they found narcotics in his pockets.
Hernandez Villegas was taken to the Buena Vista County Jail, where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class C felony; first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor; interference with official acts causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor; and public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.
He was booked and held on a $13,300 bond.
