Storm Lake Early Childhood Center Receives STEM Scale‑Up Grant

The Storm Lake Community School District has been awarded a STEM Scale‑Up Program grant to support early learning at the Storm Lake Early Childhood Center.

The grant, provided through the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council, will fund implementation of the STEMwonder program, which introduces young students to science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on activities designed to build curiosity and foundational skills. Participating educators will complete professional learning as part of the program requirements.

The Northwest STEM Region Advisory Board selected Storm Lake through a competitive application process that included school districts, libraries, museums and other organizations across the region.

“This grant allows us to expand high‑quality learning opportunities to our youngest learners,” Storm Lake Early Elementary School Assistant Principal Jessica Mathistad said. “By introducing STEM concepts early, we are helping students build skills that will support their success throughout their education.”
