Iowa’s latest round of biofuels infrastructure grants will bring new investment to Storm Lake and Spencer, as the state continues expanding access to lower‑cost E15 and biodiesel blends.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced Friday that more than $2 million in cost‑share grants were awarded through the Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program — supporting 38 projects statewide.
Two of those awards landed in Storm Lake. Brew Oil LLC received a $52,846 grant to upgrade its E15 retail infrastructure and a $14,413 grant for a biodiesel site. In Spencer, Brew Oil LLC was awarded $37,180 to support a new E15 retail project. All three sites are expected to expand access to cleaner burning fuels while lowering costs for area drivers.
State officials say E15 — also known as Unleaded 88 — continues to offer one of the most affordable options at the pump. Iowa now leads the nation with more than 1,100 stations offering E15, and drivers saved more than $60 million statewide last year by choosing it over E10. Biodiesel demand also remains strong, supporting Iowa’s soybean producers and reducing emissions in diesel engines.
The Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program has invested more than $74 million since 2006, leveraging more than $280 million in private funding to help retailers install tanks, pumps and other equipment needed for higher‑blend renewable fuels. Naig says the latest round of grants underscores the state’s commitment to expanding consumer choice and strengthening rural economies.
