St. Mary’s Ball Targets $1.5M Renovation Goal

St. Mary’s Catholic School in Storm Lake is setting its sights on one of the biggest fundraising goals in its history.

The annual St. Mary’s Ball and Charity Auction returns Saturday, March 14, at The Forum on the Buena Vista University campus—and this year’s theme, “Black & White: A Panther Tradition,” is designed to celebrate the school’s identity while rallying support for a major renovation.

Organizers say the fund‑a‑cause will focus on modernizing the community gym entrance and the first floor of the high school. The project carries a bold price tag of $1.5 million. Plans call for relocating the coach’s office, concession stand, and restrooms, while updating lockers, flooring, doors, trophy cases, and the west staircase. Leaders note the addition was built in 1964 and has seen few updates since.

Event chairs Jeff and Amanda Foell, along with co‑chairs Adam and Kate Friedrichsen, believe the upgrades will boost enrollment, strengthen school pride, and address safety concerns in the current lobby.

Parish leaders say the campaign is ambitious, but with pledges due by March 1, they hope construction can begin this summer.

The evening will feature dinner, live and silent auctions, and entertainment. Tickets are available online at StormLakeCatholic.com or through the parish office.

A proposed $1.5 million renovation at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Storm Lake includes relocating the coach’s office, restrooms, and concession stand while modernizing the gym entrance and first floor of the high school. The updated layout features new common areas, trophy displays, and a redesigned staircase to enhance safety and school pride. (Photo submitted)
