Pocahontas Man Pleads Guilty in Meth, Firearms Case

A Pocahontas man has admitted to distributing methamphetamine in the Fort Dodge area and illegally possessing multiple firearms.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, 47‑year‑old Jordan Mefferd pled guilty Monday in federal court in Sioux City to seven federal charges — including conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, four separate counts of distributing meth, possession with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Federal prosecutors say Mefferd was part of a meth distribution operation that moved more than a pound of meth in the Webster County area between July of 2024 and September of 2025. During the investigation, agents conducted four controlled buys from Mefferd in late 2025, totaling more than 200 grams of pure methamphetamine.

On Sept. 23, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at Mefferd’s home. They seized meth, nearly $9,700 in cash, four firearms and ammunition. Mefferd is barred from having guns because of a long list of prior felony convictions — including earlier meth manufacturing and delivery charges, possession of lithium, third‑offense drug possession, eluding, third‑degree burglary and escape.

Mefferd now faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison, with the potential for a life sentence, more than $60 million in fines and at least 10 years of supervised release once he’s out. He remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal while a presentence investigation is completed. A sentencing date will be set later.

The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Dodge Police, the FBI, Iowa State Patrol, ATF and the Iowa DCI Lab.
