Individual Threatening Self-Harm With Firearm Led to Lockdown of Storm Lake Schools

A couple of Storm Lake schools were briefly put on lockdown due to a male who was threatening to harm himself with a firearm.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, a 911 call was received from a residence in the 800 block of Pleasantview Drive shortly before 2pm today (Thur). Due to the proximity of the Storm Lake Elementary and Middle Schools, police requested a lockdown for both buildings.

Shortly after arriving on the scene, police were advised by family that they had disarmed the male. Officers then contacted the individual in the backyard behind the residence, where he was detained without incident. He was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.

Police secured the scene a few minutes after 2pm, and requested the lockdowns to be lifted. No injuries were reported.
