Incumbents, Challengers, and Write-In Gaps: Sac County Election Preview

Sac County voters will decide city council and school board races next Tuesday, with competitive contests in several communities.

In Schaller, four candidates are running for three city council seats: incumbent Clarence Hansen and challengers Nathan Blum, Rex Rimmer, and Keith Thompson. Schaller voters will also elect school board members in the Schaller-Crestland district, where Matt Cress and Steven Mason are seeking seats in Districts 1 and 2.

Early’s city council race features incumbents Brian Pickhinke and Christine Madden, along with newcomer Xavier DeLaO. In Nemaha, Melvin Langner Jr. and Matthew Quealy are incumbents, joined by challenger Connie Severson.

Sac City voters will choose between incumbent Robert Murley and challenger Tom Lownik for two council seats. In Lake View, incumbents Dale Boeckman, Jeff Meyer, and JoAnn Rae Peters face challengers Rich Schultz and Michael Frank for three openings.

Odebolt’s mayoral race features incumbent Rick Roeder. Carl Hemer and Levi Thies are current council members seeking re-election, while Stephanie Hauser is a newcomer. 

In Lytton, Jeff Ellerbrock is running unopposed for mayor. The five council candidates—Nicole Meyer, Brenda Wiederin, Jeff Townsend, Darsi Huddleson, and Larry Coon—are all seeking election.

Wall Lake Mayor Jamie Rohlf is running for re-election, and Steve Nuetzman is the lone candidate for two council seats. Auburn’s council race is crowded, with six candidates—Heather Husman, Deb Ludwig, Nick Meister, Gordon Dupuis, Linda Rath, and Justin Potthoff—competing for three seats.

School board contests are also active across Sac County. In the East Sac district, incumbents Jim Wallace and Jon Quinn face challengers Kimble Bromley and Kyle Leners for two at-large seats. OABCIG has multiple contested races, while South Central Calhoun’s District 1 seat remains vacant.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 4. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
