Republican candidates for Iowa Governor joined about 200 northwest Iowans in Holstein last night for the Ida County GOP forum, alongside contenders in the 4th Congressional District.
Rep. Randy Feenstra of Hull was absent due to a scheduling conflict, according to Lori Leonard Reyman, who serves as PR Chair for Ida County Republicans and for the State and National Federations of Republican Women.
Many of the gubernatorial hopefuls pointed out Feenstra’s absence, including former Department of Administrative Services director Adam Steen.
Other governor hopefuls joining Steen at the event included Brad Sherman, Eddie Andrews and Zach Lahn. Each took the stage to outline their vision for Iowa.
Steen emphasized unity and perseverance on the campaign trail, while laying out three policy priorities: property rights, life at conception, and property tax reform.
Zach Lahn, a businessman and first‑time candidate, spoke about his Iowa roots and warned against hedge funds and out‑of‑state investors buying up Iowa homes and farmland. He also criticized tax breaks for large data centers and pledged to defend property rights.
Brad Sherman, a pastor and former state representative, highlighted his decades of experience in ministry and public service. He called for integrity in politics and transparency in government, framing his campaign around “restoring the foundations of freedom.”
State Rep. Eddie Andrews of Johnston followed, introducing himself as a pastor, father, and tech entrepreneur. He pointed to his record of passing legislation on parental rights, school choice, and medical freedom, while also sharing his personal motivation to improve Iowa’s mental health system after the loss of his adopted son.
Secretary of State Paul Pate emceed the forum, praising northwest Iowa’s role in Republican victories and spotlighting election integrity measures.
