On February 13, 2024 at approximately 9:25pm the Spencer Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 900 block of East 12th St in Spencer. The suspect vehicle then fled from police at speeds near 100 mph and failed to use headlights. The suspect vehicle evaded police until it was located by a Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy in the 3100 block of 230th Avenue. The vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac, had overturned in the ditch at 9:48pm. The driver, 20 year old Adrian Frakes, was located a short distance away from the crash site and was taken into custody without incident. Frakes was charged with possession of marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor; Eluding, a Class D felony; Driving Under Suspension, Reckless Driving, Failure to Use Headlamps When Required, Failure to Maintain Control, 3 counts of Failure to Obey Stop Signs, No Insurance, and Speeding. Frakes is currently being held at the Clay County Jail with a $5,000 bond.
