Buena Vista County Public Health Administrator Talks Flu and COVID Vaccines

Flu shots are available at the Buena Vista County Public Health office in Storm Lake.

BV Public Health Administrator Julie Sather says this is typically the start of the flu season, so now is a good time to get a shot…(audio clip below :17 )

Sather says flu and COVID vaccines can be given at the same time…(audio clip below :36 )

To be eligible for a bivalent COVID shot, an individual has to be at least two months removed from their most recent COVID vaccine dose or booster. Sather says her office has bivalent vaccine on pre-order for kids ages 5 to 11 if it gets approved by the FDA for that age range next week.

The COVID vaccine is still administered anywhere free of charge. The cost for a flu shot is 25-dollars at BV Public Health, and the flu vaccine is covered for those that have Medicare.

Vaccines are administered on Fridays at Buena Vista County Public Health. Sather says appointments are preferred, especially because they’ll have less space available due to a remodeling project that will be getting started in mid October. Call BV Public Health at 712-749-2548 to schedule an appointment.
