Storm Lake Man Arrested for Vehicle Theft

Multiple agencies were involved in the arrest of a Storm Lake man, who is charged with stealing a vehicle.

At approximately 6:45pm on Monday, the Storm Lake Police Department was called to the 12-hundred block of East 4th Street regarding a stolen vehicle. The victim reported that associates had informed the victim that their vehicle was being operated by an unknown individual on Highway 7 west of Storm Lake. The victim claimed they had not given anyone permission to operate the vehicle.

At around 7:30 Monday evening, Buena Vista County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office discovered the vehicle abandoned in the ditch in the area of county road C-63 and U Avenue in Cherokee County. The Aurelia Police Department located the alleged driver walking approximately a half-mile away from where the vehicle was found. He was identified as 24-year-old Matson Alafanso of Storm Lake.

Alafanso was taken into custody by the Aurelia Police Department. He was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail. Alfanso was charged with 2nd Degree Theft, a class D felony, and was booked on a five-thousand dollar bond.
