Storm Lake Woman Arrested on Assault Charges

A woman was arrested late last week after the Storm Lake Police Department responded to a report of a belated assault.

The department was reportedly called to the 900 block of West 6th Street at around 8:30pm on Friday. According to Storm Lake Police, officers spoke with a male victim who reported that they were assaulted earlier that evening by a female suspect in the 700 block of West 9th Street in Storm Lake. The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Maria Cervantes-Alvarez of Storm Lake.

The victim said that during an argument, Cervantes-Alvarez used a metal pole to hit the victim in the head, and bit the victim on the arm. The victim also reported that Cervantes-Alvarez damaged their personal property and a vehicle following the assault. The victim sustained minor injuries, which did not require medical treatment.

Officers located Cervantes-Alvarez shortly after the report, and she was taken into custody without incident. Cervantes-Alvarez was charged with Willful Injury, a class D felony…Assault With A Dangerous Weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor…Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor…and 5th Degree Criminal Mischief, a simple misdemeanor.

Cervantes-Alvarez was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on an 83-hundred dollar bond.
