City Council Approves Submitting Grant Application for Proposed Harmony Garden Items

The Storm Lake City Council on Monday approved submitting a grant application for a revitalization project in the library courtyard area.

City Communications Coordinator Dana Larsen said the grant opportunity is through T-Mobile’s Hometown Program. Seven outdoor musical instruments would be purchased that would be part of a proposed Harmony Garden in front of the Library and Witter Gallery…(audio clip below :27 )

The instruments would include a cavatina, conga drums, pentatonic pipes, calypso chimes, and a sunflower drum.

All of the amenities would be covered by the grant, with the cost of around 43-thousand 700-dollars. Larsen said this is part of a bigger project to improve the entire Library and Witter Gallery grounds…(audio clip below :30 )

Storm Lake Mayor Mike Porsch said part of the reason a Master Plan is put together is so grants can be pursued for projects when they become available.

The Harmony Garden is a first step in the Downtown Master Plan process.
