Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign to be Implemented Around 4th of July

Iowa law enforcement agencies will be participating in a “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign during the 4th of July weekend.

The campaign will run from July 2nd to July 5th. Officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers, and will address all traffic violations to keep Iowa roadways safe.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that 493 people died in motor vehicle crashes across the country during the 4th of July holiday period in 2020. 201 of those fatalities occurred in an alcohol-impaired crash. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, five people lost their lives in Iowa in 2020 over the 4th of July period, and four of those deaths were due to alcohol impairment.

Residents that plan to drink are reminded to designate a sober driver, or use a ride service to get home.
