Need for Blood Donors Rising with Warmer Weather

The recent heat wave is apparently keeping some Iowa blood donors from giving the gift of life.

Danielle West, with LifeServe Blood Center, says while they normally have a three-to-five-day supply of all blood types on the shelves, the supply has dwindled to less than a one-day supply…(audio clip below :15 )

Donors are needed immediately as the demand for blood products is continuing to rise…(audio clip below :16 )

On average, West says someone needs blood every two seconds.

Blood drives are coming up in Storm Lake, including tomorrow (Fri) from 9am to 1pm at the United Methodist Church Family Life Center…and on Tuesday, July 5th from 12:30 to 5:30pm at the Storm Lake St. Mark Lutheran Church. Schedule an appointment at www.lifeservebloodcenter.org.
