Walleye Fishing Challenge Begins at the End of March

A statewide fishing challenge is being conducted again this year.

The Midwest Walleye Challenge will run from March 30th through June 30th. This marks the 3rd year that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is partnering with MyCatch by Angler’s Atlas for the event.

The Challenge is designed to help the DNR expand walleye collection data. The MyCatch mobile app maintains anonymous location data. Iowa DNR fisheries biologists receive only generalized lake and river catch data entered to assess and manage walleye populations. Specific catch locations from anglers are not listed on public leaderboards. This year’s walleye challenge has been expanded to other states across the Midwest and into Canada as part of a larger fisheries research project funded by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.

Iowa anglers will compete against each other for biweekly prizes. All catches from across the Midwest will qualify for grand prizes at the end of the event. Register for the Midwest Walleye Challenge at the Angler’s Atlas website.
