Teen Accused of Assaulting DHS Worker in Storm Lake

The Storm Lake Police Department responded to a report of a runaway juvenile Tuesday morning near the Iowa Department of Human Services office on East 5th Street.

Authorities say a 17-year-old had assaulted a DHS worker before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.

Officers located the juvenile within 30 minutes in the 400 block of Michigan Street and took them into custody without incident.

The teen now faces a Class D felony charge of assault on persons in certain occupations. They were transported to the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee, pending a juvenile court appearance.
