Damage occurred in the Cherokee area as a result of last night’s (Mon) stormy weather.
Matthew Meyers at the National Weather Service Sioux Falls office said a peak wind gust of 66 miles-per-hour was reported around Cherokee. Tree damage occurred, and the roof of a restaurant in Cherokee was reportedly peeled off. There were over 18 hundred power outages last night in the Cherokee area.
In Buena Vista County, Meyers said there was a wind gust of 53 miles-per-hour four miles south of Albert City.
In Clay County, there was a measured gust of 68 miles-per-hour in Webb.
In Woodbury County three miles north of Moville, winds were estimated at 70 miles-per-hour, which led to several downed tree branches.
22 hundredths of an inch of rain was measured outside the Storm Lake radio stations.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely in the Storm Lake area later today (Tues) and tonight.
