The Storm Lake Walmart store was evacuated late last night (Wed) due to a suspicious package that was left near a propane tank exchange area.
According to the Storm Lake Police Department, the store was closed temporarily, but has since been deemed safe. City of Storm Lake Communications Coordinator Dana Larsen says the store closed at 9:15pm, and the scene was cleared at 1am this morning. The immediate area was evacuated while public safety officials assessed the situation.
The Storm Lake Fire Department also responded to the scene.
