Alyssa Solem, a Lieutenant with the Storm Lake Police Department, is looking forward to having fun and connecting with Storm Lake residents, and she encourages everyone to attend a National Night Out event in their neighborhood.

Stop by a gathering near you to meet your neighbors, enjoy food and fun, and hear tips from city officials and emergency crews on keeping Storm Lake a safe and welcoming city for all.

The Storm Lake Police Department, Storm Lake Fire Department, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center ambulance crews, and City of Storm Lake officials will be stopping at the events to visit with the public. They will share safety tips, help residents to be aware of what is happening in their neighborhoods, and remind everyone of how to report issues to their local officials when needed.

Storm Lake and its police department have participated in the National Night Out program since 1990, joining communities nationwide in working to create safer, more caring places to live.

Solem says the annual event has grown in Storm Lake, and this year’s 17 locations are up from last year’s 15 sites.

The event is part of a nationwide movement bringing over 17,000 communities together across the country. To date, about 40 million neighbors have taken part in the gatherings.

Are you interested in hosting a block party during next year’s event? Solem urges you to contact her by calling the Storm Lake Police Department at 712-732-8010 or emailing her at solem@stormlake.org.
