Storm Lake Mini-Pitch Construction to Start in August ; Kickoff Event Planned for September

A mini-pitch soccer field that has been in the works in Storm Lake is scheduled to open this fall.

The City of Storm Lake has been working with the non-profit recreation program “Kick it Forward” on the project. “Kick It Forward” has raised approximately 90-percent of the 100-thousand dollar goal for the field.

A mini-pitch is a smaller size soccer field to provide a safe place for kids to play. Joe Kucera is the Storm Lake Community Education Director…(audio clip below :15 )

The mini-pitch soccer field will be located on the former tennis court area at Chautauqua Park, and will include lighting and benches. Construction is scheduled to begin the week of August 23rd. A dedication kickoff event is tentatively planned for September 10th…(audio clip below :16 )

Storm Lake’s project will only be the second mini-pitch in northwest Iowa, with the other in Sioux City. 14 mini-pitches have been built statewide, and more are in the planning stage.
