Storm Lake FFA Member to Perform with National FFA Band at Upcoming Convention/Expo

A local FFA member has been selected to perform at this year’s National FFA Convention and Expo.

Storm Lake St. Mary’s senior John Heitman is a member of the Storm Lake FFA Chapter. Heitman will play Alto saxaphone with the National FFA Band in Indianapolis, Indiana from October 26th through the 29th.

John is the son of Dan and Christy Heitman. He submitted an audition tape, and was selected to help bring instrumental balance to the band from a pool of applicants nationwide. John will perform several times during the national FFA convention and expo.

The Storm Lake FFA was founded in 2018. It is a shared program between Storm Lake Public and St. Mary’s. Buena Vista University has an agreement with both schools that allows BVU Director of Agriculture Rich Crow to serve as FFA Adviser and Ag Teacher.

The Storm Lake FFA program had 33 members last year. The addition of a Storm Lake High School Ag class this year has increased membership to over 40.
