Storm Lake Community Education Director Points Out Growing Cat Problem at Local Field

Storm Lake Community Education Director Joe Kucera informed the city council this week of the growing problem of having to deal with cat feces at the West 9th Street ball field.

Kucera said the field is overrun with cats, and it’s becoming a health hazard…

Kucera said it’s strictly a cat problem, and credited city staff for doing what needs to be done to get the field ready for play.

Kucera said Community Education wants to be part of the solution to the problem…

Kucera said they use that field to host at least five games per year. He said the public has been advised not to feed cats in that area, and signs have been put up.

Kucera has been in touch with the Caring Paws Rescue group as well…

Council member Meg McKeon agreed it’s partly an issue of some people not understanding that they shouldn’t be feeding community cats.

Mayor Mike Porsch said he hated the thought of possibly having to close fields in town due to health concerns.

On a positive note, Kucera said over 78 hundred dollars was raised from this year’s Storm Lake Little League Association barbecue fundraiser.
