Democratic candidate Stephanie Steiner of Sutherland is making her case to northwest Iowa voters, emphasizing health care, affordability, and support for family farmers as she campaigns across the 4th Congressional District.
The seat is currently held by Republican Congressman Randy Feenstra of Hull, who is campaigning for governor.
Steiner, a retired nurse and small livestock producer, says her personal story—including the loss of her ex-husband to COPD—shaped her commitment to protecting access to care and affordability.
She argues rural hospitals and clinics are at risk of closing, leaving families without nearby care, and says her campaign will focus on affordability and revitalizing small towns.
Steiner also points to challenges facing family farmers, criticizing corporate consolidation and deregulation.
She says Democrats in the district are focused on serving people, not tearing down opponents.
Steiner is asking voters to support change, saying she’ll always be available to constituents.
Other candidates in the race include Democrats Ashley WolfTornabane of Storm Lake and Dave Dawson of Lawton and Republicans Rep. Matt Windschitl of Missouri Valley, Ryan Rhodes of Ames, Christian Schlaefer of Lakota, Douglas Jensen of Silver City, and Chris McGowan of Sioux City.
The district is the largest in Iowa, covering 36 counties spread out across the northwest, western, and north central parts of the state.
The primary election is scheduled for June 2, with the general election set for Nov. 3, 2026.
