State Auditor Rob Sand hand-delivered a pie to the leaders of the Sioux Central School District on Friday in recognition of their recently received Public Innovations and Efficiencies (PIE) Award.
Sioux Central is the runner-up in the Class 3A Division for Best Performing School District. The program was created by Auditor Sand in 2019, which serves to encourage governmental entities to implement cost-cutting measures and spark innovative ideas to save public funds.
PIE participation increased by more than 55-percent in the last year. 84 counties and 310 cities submitted entries in 2021. For the first time, 121 school districts participated in the program. Cities and counties were awarded points based on the number of cost-cutting measures implemented in 2021, and in the most improved category compared to the previous year.
