State Audit Report Released on Palo Alto County

State Auditor Rob Sand this (Thur) morning released an audit report on Palo Alto County.

According to the report, Palo Alto County’s revenues for the year ended June 30th, 2024 totaled over 21.4 million dollars, a 10.9 percent decrease. The significant decrease in revenues is due to a decrease in drainage assessments.

Expenses for county operations totaled over 17.3 million dollars, a 1.6 percent increase.

Sand reported four findings related to the receipt and expenditure of taxpayer funds. The findings address issues such as a lack of segregation of duties, and material amounts of payables, prepaid expenditures, and capital assets not properly recorded in the county’s financial statements. Sand provided Palo Alto County with recommendations to address each of the findings. Two of the findings are repeated from the prior year.
