St. Mary’s Family Helps Create Ice Cream Flavor

A Storm Lake St. Mary’s family has created an ice cream flavor in collaboration with a local business.

At last year’s St. Mary’s Ball and Charity auction, Ben and Ralna McVinua were the winning bidders of the “Create Your Own Ice Cream” package offered by Storm Lake Candy Company owner Ruth Whitmore. The collaboration resulted in a limited-edition ice cream flavor called “Smurfs” which consists of a blue raspberry base with marshmallow, and blue and white sprinkles.

The first batch of “Smurfs” is debuting today (Thur) at the Candy Company. Only five gallons are available in the initial batch. Ben and Ralna McVinua are the parents of St. Mary’s 6th grader Ryan and 4th grader Logan.

A similar customized ice cream experience is up for grabs at this year’s Ball and Auction on Saturday, March 9th at the Buena Vista University Siebens Forum. The theme for this year’s event is “A Night Among Stars.”

Proceeds from the St. Mary’s Ball and Auction will directly contribute to building enhancements and facilitating affordable tuition at the school. Tickets can be purchased online at www.stormlakecatholic.com. For more information, contact Ellen Gruntorad at the St. Mary’s Parish Office.
