The Storm Lake School Board on Wednesday approved several items pertaining to the second phase of the Early Elementary School construction.

Items approved include eight-million dollars in general obligation bonds, as well as the construction contract with Sande Construction and Supply out of Humboldt in the amount of 11.9-million dollars.

The second phase will add a 1st grade wing to the Early Elementary School, which opened in January of 2022. The second phase is expected to be ready at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

The school board also authorized the district to advertise for the addition of two family and student services directors at the middle school.

Superintendent Dr. Stacey Cole said the additions are designed to support the transition of students from 8th to 9th grade…(audio clip below)

Individuals with a strong social work background are needed for the positions. Dr. Cole said she wouldn’t be opposed if a current staff member expressed interest in transferring into one of the positions, but she doesn’t anticipate that will be the case.
