Red Flag Warnings Will Be in Effect Today

The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings this (Tues) afternoon and into the evening for area counties including Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Pocahontas, O’Brien, and Palo Alto.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are, or soon will be, in place, particularly warm temperatures, low relative humidity, and high wind activity. North northwest wind is expected to be between 20 and 30 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 40 miles per hour in some locations. The relative humidity will get as low as 20-percent.

Any fires that develop in the area this afternoon and evening will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
