Corn/Soybean Planting Continues Well Ahead of Last Year’s Pace

30-percent of northwest Iowa corn has now been planted, according the latest crop progress report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

29-percent of the expected corn crop has been planted statewide, which is 11 days ahead of last year, but one day behind the five-year average.

13-percent of northwest Iowa soybeans have been planted. 16-percent of soybeans have been planted statewide, which is 11 days ahead of last year, and one day ahead of the five year average.

The amount of topsoil in northwest Iowa that’s either short or very short of moisture now stands at 39-percent, up from 30-percent the week before.

There were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa and statewide last week.
