75,184 meals were packed yesterday (Thur) during the annual Storm Lake St. Mary’s food packing event in the school gym.
Principal Ryan Berg says the event went very smoothly…
The event got underway at 9:45am, and Berg said they were able to wrap up at about 3:15pm.
Over 12 thousand more meals were packed this year than last year. Berg says it mainly comes down to donations that they receive…
Berg said they probably could have packed another ten or 12 thousand meals yesterday.
Berg is moving to the Davenport area after this school year but says the food-packing event is expected to continue…
The total number of meals packed since the school started the event in 2010 now stands at 972,448.
The food is sent to needy children in third-world countries such as Honduras. St. Mary’s partners with the “Then Feed Just One” organization out of LeMars for the project.
