“No Kings” Protest Held in Storm Lake

Storm Lake was the site of one of the β€œNo Kings” peaceful protests that took place nationwide on Saturday.

Part of a Facebook post by the Storm Lake Police Department stated that β€œthe public protest in the city was a powerful example of the freedom we all share – the right to peacefully assemble and express our views.”

The Storm Lake PD made clear that they β€œdo not take sides in political or ideological matters, but their role is to protect the rights of everyone, including those who choose to raise their voices through peaceful protest.”

The full statement can be read below.

“Today’s public protest in our city was a powerful example of the freedom we all share β€” the right to peacefully assemble and express our views.

As your police department, we want to be clear: We do not take sides in political or ideological matters. the Storm Lake Police Department’s role is to protect the rights of everyone β€” including those who choose to raise their voices through peaceful protest.

We want to thank the organizers of this event for communicating their plans with us in advance. Their cooperation allowed us to provide assistance, ensure public safety, and help the event run smoothly.

To our community – thank you for showing respect, patience, and understanding throughout the event.

Whether you agreed or disagreed with the message, you demonstrated that everyone has a voice, and every voice deserves to be heard safely and peacefully.

Together, we continue to show that Storm Lake is a place where diversity, dialogue, and dignity matter.”

A protest was also held in Sac City. More than 30 were held statewide Saturday.
