National Volunteer Week Salutes BV County Volunteers ; BV Extension Welcoming 4-H Volunteers

This week is National Volunteer Week, and the Buena Vista County Extension office is inviting residents to sign up to be 4-H volunteers.

Each year, thousands of volunteers in Iowa donate their time and energy to make their communities a better place to live. The 4-H Youth Development Program is one Iowa group that relies heavily on volunteers. In 2021 and 2022, over six-thousand individuals volunteered in some capacity with 4-H. Research found over 23-percent of adult Americans volunteered over four-billion hours of service worth nearly 130-billion dollars between 2020 and 2021. In Iowa, more than 743-thousand volunteers contributed 48.5-million hours of service. Almost 30-percent of Iowans volunteered formally through organizations in 2021.

In Buena Vista County, over 30 volunteers serve in many roles for the 4-H Youth Development Program including club leaders, project leaders, and committee members. Buena Vista County Youth Coordinator Nicole Reinert says 4-H wouldn’t exist in BV County without volunteers.

4-H volunteers help make 4-H Extension programs more beneficial to the youth of Buena Vista County every day. If interested in joining the team of Extension 4-H volunteers, contact the Buena Vista County Extension Office.
