Marina, Other Concerns Brought up at BV County Proposed Property Tax Levy Public Hearing

As the transfer of the Casino Beach Marina to BV County remains in a holding pattern, the BV Supervisors are still in search of a 3rd party vendor to operate the marina.

During a proposed property tax levy public hearing this (Tues) morning, a local resident asked about the possibility of adding businesses in the marina area to hopefully help with taxes. Supervisor Paul Merten pointed out that ten people expressed interest in running the marina. Two people were interviewed and toured the site, but Merten said they are no longer considered viable. Merten said the county is still trying to enhance marina operations.

Kevin Cone of Storm Lake said the county needs to be more accountable in its spending…

Cone said it’s getting harder to live in BV County.

During the public hearing, another resident expressed concerns about schools being properly funded and roads being taken care of.

The county property tax levy would remain the same at $4.27 per thousand dollars valuation. Supervisor Kathy Croker pointed out that while taxes themselves can’t be appealed, everyone has the right to appeal their property valuation at the county assessors office.
