Man Injured in Clay County Motorcycle Accident

A motorcycle driver suffered incapacitating injuries following an accident last weekend near Fostoria.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call was received shortly after 6am Saturday regarding a single motorcycle accident in the 29 hundred mile of Highway 71. Authorities discovered 21-year-old Ryan Reineke of Spencer lying conscious in a ditch near the motorcycle.

An investigation determined that Reineke was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his newly purchased motorcycle. He left the roadway and entered the east ditch, which caused the motorcycle to roll over, and Reineke was thrown from the bike. The motorcycle split in two.

Reineke, who was wearing a safety helmet, was transported to the Spencer Municipal Hospital by ambulance. The motorcycle was considered a total loss. Charges are pending further investigation.

During the accident investigation, a secondary collision occurred on the scene next to response vehicles that were providing traffic control and assisting with the investigation. The driver who caused the collision failed to slow down as they approached the accident scene and rear-ended a car that had slowed down prior to the scene. Minor injuries were reported. Both drivers declined medical assistance. No medical personnel were injured as a result of the secondary collision.
